About School of Law, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus

The University was born out of the educational vision of St Kuriakose Elias Chavara, an educationist and social reformer of the nineteenth century in South India. The Christ Institute of Management (CIM) campus was inaugurated at Lavasa on Sunday, July 20th, 2014. The off-site campus offers several UG, PG, and doctoral-level programs in the field of Commerce, Law, Data Science, and Management. The School of Law offers Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Doctoral programmes in law as per the guidelines of the Bar Council of India and the University Grants Commission. It has a flexible curriculum offering several options in different areas of specialization. It is devised keeping in mind the requirements of the legal profession and academia. The programmes offered at the School of Law incorporate a number of special opportunities such as internships, clinical programmes, supervisory research, and writing. In order to promote interaction between students and legal professionals, seminars, guest lectures, and workshops are conducted on various subjects of law at regular intervals. In addition to the mandatory courses spanning across a ten-semester programme, the School of Law has also introduced numerous other value-added courses and programmes for the benefit of students.

About National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled Persons (NCPEDP)

The National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP) is a cross-disability, non-profit organization working as an interface between the government, industry, international agencies, and the voluntary sector towards empowering persons with disabilities. It has a vision of a society where people with disabilities are equal members leading dignified lives through economic independence and a mission to promote equality for people with disabilities in all spheres of life through research and advocacy around Employment, Education, Accessibility, and Communication.

NCPEDP has a pan-India presence through the National Disability Network (NDN). Formed in 1999, NDN has members from the majority of States and Union Territories of the country. NCPEDP has also constituted the National Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (NCRPD), consisting of disability sector leaders and experts from across the country, that meet at regular intervals to discuss ongoing pertinent issues concerning people with disabilities and to plan a viable strategy to address their issues.

About Human Rights and Gender Studies Committee

The Human Rights and Gender Studies Committee aimed at the promotion and protection of the rights of every individual by spreading awareness via organizing various events. These activities sought to focus on intersectional humanities concepts such as domestic violence, including the various forms of gender-based violence or abuse (sexual, physical, verbal, emotional, and economic), crimes against children, hate crimes against marginalized communities, LGBTQIA+, and their standpoints, comparative discourse on various public policies on education, housing, labour welfare, personal benefits, medicine, etc., and persons with disabilities among countless other past, present and emerging issues

About the Course

The importance of disability awareness has been given prominence over the recent decades, making it easier for people with disabilities and society to develop empathy for one another. Disability awareness helps in subsiding society's stereotypical mindset, providing vast opportunities for everyone to get involved in creating a positive, inclusive society for all. These courses will help in spreading awareness about disability among future torchbearers and act as a catalyst in fighting against the discrimination and exclusion of people with disabilities.

Course Outcomes

The course aims to help the participants:

  1. Develop an understanding of Disability laws and their relevant concepts.
  2. Gain an understanding of working on the rights-based needs of people with disabilities in an inclusive society.
  3. Learn about the intervention framework, research and writing, and advocacy mechanisms.
