The 38th National Games of India concluded with a spectacular closing ceremony on February 14, 2025, at the International Sports Stadium in Haldwani, Uttarakhand. The event, which commenced on January 28, 2025, witnessed participation from over 16,000 athletes competing across 35 disciplines, highlighting the spirit of sportsmanship and excellence.
Distinguished Guests and Notable Addresses
The grand closing ceremony was attended by eminent dignitaries, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President P.T. Usha officially declared the Games closed.
In his speech, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya praised Uttarakhand for successfully hosting the Games, stating:
"Uttarakhand is known as ‘Devbhoomi,’ but after hosting the 38th National Games, it has now earned the title of ‘Khel Bhoomi.’"
He emphasized India’s ambition to become a global sports hub and reaffirmed the country's aspiration to host the 2036 Olympic Games.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah underscored the positive influence of initiatives like Khelo India and Fit India, acknowledging the significant rise in youth participation. He also appreciated Uttarakhand’s efforts in enhancing sports infrastructure and applauded the dedication of the athletes.
Medal Tally and Top Performers
The Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) emerged as the overall champion, securing:
- 68 Gold
- 26 Silver
- 27 Bronze
Maharashtra claimed the second position with:
- 54 Gold
- 71 Silver
- 73 Bronze
Haryana secured the third spot with:
- 48 Gold
- 47 Silver
- 58 Bronze
The host state, Uttarakhand, delivered an impressive performance, securing the seventh position with:
- 24 Gold
- 35 Silver
- 44 Bronze
A Commitment to Sustainability – The Green Games
The 38th National Games were themed as "Green Games", emphasizing eco-friendly initiatives such as:
- Minimal plastic usage
- Solar energy dependency
- Medals crafted from e-waste
Additionally, a “Sports Forest” was established, where Rudraksha trees were planted in honour of medal-winning athletes, symbolizing a lasting tribute to their achievements.
Passing the Torch – Meghalaya to Host the 39th Edition
As the 38th National Games came to a close, the host baton was officially handed over to Meghalaya, which will organize the 39th National Games in 2026. This transition marks another milestone in India’s sporting journey, reflecting the nation’s growing commitment to nurturing talent and fostering a vibrant sporting culture.
