2^nd Amity National Moot Court Competition, 2017

The moot court competitions have been a platform for a cradle of budding lawyers to explore their potentials and foster team spirit. After a successful hosting of the 1^st Amity National Moot Court Competition, 2016, owing to the challenging problem and excellent judging, Amity Law School, Gurgaon, aimed to climb the ladder by organizing 2^nd Amity National Moot Court Competition, 2017. The 2^nd Amity National Moot Court Competition, 2017 was hosted and organized by Amity Law School, Gurgaon from March 24 to 26, 2017, in association with Amity University Gurgaon, Knowledge And Research Partners, SCC Online® and Eastern Book Company, Food Partner, Mother Dairy and Media partner, Legal Bites. The competition seemed to sensitize law students in the implementation of Uniform Civil Code Uniform Civil Code and determining the Constitutional Validity of proposed Surrogacy Bill. This competition was yet another milestone in its stride towards academic and professional excellence of Amity Law School, Gurgaon. Following the active participation of 36 teams in the last competition, this year as well the counting continued for 38 selected teams battling out in this competition to discuss and determine the standing of Constitutional Law related issues.

On 24^th march 2017, the inaugural event embarked with the presence of esteemed advocate, an icon of the legal fraternity, the Chief Guest, Mr. Ram Jethmalani. The appearance of Senior Advocate, a living legend, was serendipitous encounter or heaven-sent opportunity and the fortunate showered extreme honour and reverence to the dignitary while he addressed the gathering with words of wisdom, encouraging the young budding lawyers to be percipience and prudent. The other esteemed dignitaries involved Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.)P.B. Sharma, Deputy Vice Chancellor Maj. Gen. B.S. Suhag (Retd.), Dean of Student Welfare Maj. Gen. G.S. Bal (Retd.) and Director, Amity Law School Maj. Gen. P.K. Sharma (Retd.). The speeches at the inaugural event encouraged and empowered the students to explore and exhibit their potentials. The dignitaries also revealed the winning trophy and various other prizes in the inaugural function. The remaining day followed by the registration, allotment of team codes, distribution of KITs and exchange of memorials for the preliminary rounds.

On 25th march, 2017, the day kick started with the 1^st preliminary round followed by 2^nd preliminary round, where the participants despite being grilled utmost by the learned and competent judges, tried their level best to put forward their arguments. Top 8 teams having won both the rounds and scored the highest in totality could make to the quarter final. After the preliminary rounds, Shri Salman Khurshid, a Senior Advocate came for the event to enlighten and encourage the students. On the same day, quarter-final round was held and the four winning teams of quarter-final round 1) Symbiosis Law School, Pune, 2) Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Patiala, 3) University School of Law and Legal Studies, GGSIPU, Delhi and 4) DSNLU, Vishakhapatnam could step forward for the Semi-final round.

The final day, on 26^th march 2017, the anxious and eager participants of each team struggled to accomplish their mission of getting into the final rounds. The winning teams of Semi- final round that could make up to the finals were 1) Symbiosis Law School, Pune and 2) Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Patiala. Well, the most awaited final rounds started with a bench of five judges and were viewed by the curious crowd agog to know who bags the winning trophy. After the final round, the crowd gathered for the most important moment of the event that is the valedictory ceremony. Hon’ble Mr Justice G.S. Singhvi, former judge of Supreme Court of India was the Chief Guest for the Valedictory Ceremony accompanied by the other dignitaries Smt. Krishna Raj, Central Minister of State for Women and Child Development, Mr. Narayan Raju, Secretary Legislative Deparment, Ministry of Law and Justice, Shri. Mohan Parasaran, a Senior Advocate, and Smt.V. Mohana, a Senior Advocate. The dignitaries on dais also included Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) P.B. Sharma, Dean of Student Welfare Maj. Gen. G.S. Bal (Retd.) and Director, Amity Law School Maj. Gen. P.K. Sharma (Retd.)

The first award of Best Draftsman was awarded to Shringar Bhattarai and Deepanshu Tuteja, students of Amity Law School, for their moot preposition being selected as the best among all invited for the competition. Followed by Best Memorial, Chanakya National Law University, Patna and Best Researcher, Ms. Khyati Lohan, Best Mooter Female, Raina Bijay Mahapatra , Best Mooter Male, Rohan Rahul Priyadarshi all from Symbiosis Law School, Pune. The Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Patiala, took away the Runner’s Up Trophy and the star team of the event Symbiosis Law School, Pune earned the Winning Trophy . All the dedication of students, faculties and most important the guidance and support of Director, Amity Law School Maj. Gen. P.K. Sharma (Retd.) who had been the backbone of entire event, made this event a blockbuster.
