Prelude:
On this day in the year 1947, India met herself as a free spirit let loose from the snare of colonisation. She was in the trap for a long span of centuries. She had to go through hot waters under the so-called colonial rule. She was not let down by her own people. They helped her come out of the clutches and enjoy her life. This article concentrates on some significant events in the Indian Independence movement that led to India becoming a free state. However, the structure of the essay is not chronological but emphatically drawn.
The Great Indian Revolt and then:
The Indian Independence is a moving chapter, not only in History books but also in the life of every Indian. The great souls of India wished to make her free. The first step that was taken was the Great Indian Revolt. Today, there are wide options to systematize a protest with the advancements in technology. However, even in the absence of such a technology, these valiant warriors of India organised themselves to battle against their British colonisers. This is a memorable scenario, which had a woman waging war against her enemy. This war was a practice. Though the British did not fail nor return, these Indians had a partial success because of their evocation of fear in the British. This led to a lot of modifications in the system. There came the Indian National Congress under the leadership of Womesh Chandra Banerjee. Newspapers like Kesari, Bengal Gazette, The Hindu, and National Herald bloomed. The INC met during every Christmas week. This helped them pool their ideas together to bring a steady life for the Indian sub-continent. There were Hindus, Christians and Muslims present in the meeting proving the beauty in diversity. There were a number of humiliations, sufferings, and setbacks. These were overcome by these people.
Weakening of the patch:
The Partition of Bengal is one of the major incidents that shook India and brought out the elements of secularism and tolerance in the Indians. They protested against the then Viceroy, Lord Curzon, who advocated this in 1905. This was under the pretext of administrative convenience but actually, that was a move to make the bond among the communities fragile. This was the reason for havoc called the Bengal Agitation.
Toils invested and spoils faced in the process:
After a long term of consistent struggle, the British Government 'agreed' to give us our freedom 'back'. Some relied upon their swords by losing and gaining blood for a free Indian. Valour oozed out of Baghat Singh, Subash Chandra Bose, Pasumpon Muthuramaliga Thever and the like fought against the White men. This was a category called the Extremists. Moderators were those who gave petitions to achieve independence. There was a movement called the Swadeshi Movement, which was adapted to be self-sufficient. This was similar to the slogan of Tilak, which read, "Swaraj is my birthright and I shall have it".
Dhandi March took place under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi to show his disapproval towards the salt law that was in practice. However, there were some British who favoured us and helped us at various walks of life. To name a few, Jim Corbett, Ilbert, and Lord Ripon.
What shall I do?
A part of these lost lives, whose body perished but the soul retained pristine in the minds of Indians had no progeny. All the efforts exhorted were for some soul to have a peaceful life somewhere on this peninsula. It is only with we people to grace their labour to award the lost independence to the country.
Let us leave everyone free. Let girl fetus be free in the womb. Let a school going child be free of his/her choice to study. Let women going to work tread freely on the streets. Let graduates freely choose what would be their means of subsistence. Let a senior citizen decide his investment plan. All these could be achieved only when one preserves the culture of the country in addition to the honour of the country and harmony. Long back, my Moral Science book gave us an illustration of a zoo full of peacocks. It would be boring. Happiness occurs only when there is a variety in life. Let us add this spice of life for a cordial accomplishment.
Preserving culture + Freedom + patriotism + Love = Super-Power India (The Great Indian Dreams)
JAI JAWAN JAI KISAN!
On this day, salutations to all the Jawans, who conserve themselves at the borders to save us rather than to experience a filial moment with their nestlings.
Jai Hind! Satyameva Jayate!
Happy Independence Day!
