How big was the office? Team strength?
Office was spacious and well equipped. There was an enormous collection of books and journals covering varied areas of specialisations.
Team comprised of 2 lawyers and 2 secretaries.
Application Procedure
I went through a personal contact. Anyone interested can easily apply via mailing your CV on adv.arunyadav@gmail.com
Accommodation
My place of residence is near to the office, so I didn’t need any accommodation.
First impression, First day, formalities etc.
On first day I was quite nervous because I had only finished 2nd year of my college and my knowledge was therefore limited but it went well because at first I got formally introduced to everyone in the office i.e. knowing my co-interns, getting familiar with the work they did.
One of the secretaries gave briefed me about the work I had to do and he also taught me how to use legal portal . I was also made aware of hierarchy of courts present in District Courts, Gurgaon and responded affirmatively to all my queries.
Main tasks
My tasks were assigned according to the duration for which I was there. Firstly I was given decided cases to read related to motor vehicles act and consumer protection act to familiarise me with the type of cases I was about to research on.
I was given the task of reviewing, editing a few case files and help the team in research work . For example finding case laws, write ups on legal topics and also relevant authorities to be cited in the ongoing cases.
I was also given the opportunity to draft legal notices, complaints, written statements. I was given hands on training on record keeping of the cases. I saw the practical application of laws and nuances involved in filing procedure. I was also able to attend several hearings.
M work was mainly related to research, drafting and pleadings of deeds, legal notices and preparing brief and abstracts.
Work environment, people
The work environment was quite amicable and cooperative with constant support, actions were keenly observed and corrected if needed.
People were happy to share knowledge with the interns to learn well.
Best things
I learned a lot of things beyond the reach of any book. The communication between judges and a lawyer was the most astonishing part of my internship. Sufficient time was given to complete my tasks assigned.
Bad things
There were no bad things as such.
What did you do to chill? Co-interns, colleagues.
Short breaks for having tea, snacks etc.
Stipend/ month
No stipend.
Anything else you’d like to tell
Please be thorough with whatever work has been allocated to you.
Biggest lessons
Internship helps you to see practical side of the law that we just read in our books. And the most important thing is to have good observation skills and the ability to articulate well.
