Maharashtra Judiciary Exam 2023: Notification, Exam Date, Eligibility and Exam Pattern

Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) has released the recruitment notification for Civil Judge (Junior Division & Judicial Magistrate First Class) 114 vacancies.

Maharashtra Judicial Service Examination also referred to as MPSC Civil Judge Exam or Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) is conducted by Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) to recruit candidates for State Judiciary.

Important Dates

Application starting date: May 24, 2023

Application last date: June 13, 2023

Online Payment last date: June 13, 2023

Challan Payment last date: June 16, 2023

Preliminary Examination date: September 09, 2023

Eligibility:

• Citizen of India.
  
• Degree in Law. Passing each exam in the first attempt to obtain the degree.
• Must have passed the Final Year of Law Degree or Final Year of Post Graduate Degree in Law with at least 55% marks on or before 19th May, 2023.
• Marathi language knowledge.

Age limit (as on 19 May 2023):

• Minimum: 21 years
  
• Maximum: 25 years
• Maximum for backward class: 30 years

Stages of Examination

The examination will be held in 3 stages.

Stage 1: Preliminary Examination

This is the screening test consisting of one paper conducted to choose candidates for the Main Examination. At this stage questions related to law and general knowledge which a normal educated person must be able to do are asked in the exam.

Maximum Marks: 100

Duration: 2 hours

Syllabus: The preliminary stage of the exam consists of the following subjects from which objective questions are asked.

• The Transfer of Property Act
• The Specific Relief Act
• The Maharashtra Rent Control Act
• The Limitation Act
• Constitution of India

Stage 2: Main Examination

The candidates qualifying for the preliminary stage will be called to write the Mains exam which is the next stage to get selected for the Judicial Services. The Mains stage consists of 2 descriptive type papers. The exam is conducted in Marathi and English language.

• The Indian Penal Code
• The Evidence Act
• The Code of Criminal Procedure
• The Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989
• The Protection of Civil Rights Act 1955
• Essay on current legal topic (approximately 800 words)

Stage 3: Interview

Maximum Marks: 50

The final round will be the Interview. In the Interview, the academic knowledge of a candidate, his communication skills and overall personality will be tested.
