Call for Papers: GLC-SPIL International Law Journal Volume V | Deadline Extended - 22nd December 2024

Students for the Promotion of International Law (SPIL) at Government Law College, Mumbai is pleased to announce the extension of deadline for the Call for Papers for GLC–SPIL International Law Journal (ILJ) Volume V. The extended deadline to send submissions is 22nd December 2024.

About GLC, Mumbai

Government Law College enjoys the distinction of being the oldest law school in Asia and has, since its inception in 1855, essayed a seminal role in the evolution of India’s legal and judicial landscape. Any discussion of India’s legal system and culture today is incomplete, in fact, meaningless without a mention of Government Law College, Mumbai. Looking back over the years, one realises the immeasurable role this pioneering law institution has played in India’s judicial, political and historical life. Government Law College, with its illustrious history and a heritage spanning over a century and a half, has nurtured some of the greatest minds of today, not only in the field of law but in various other walks of life.

About SPIL, Mumbai

In an increasingly integrated world, with growing transnational interactions, the significance of international law has never been greater. International events have come to dominate the domestic landscape. In order to understand the tumultuous nature of international relations and to promote a greater awareness and understanding of international law, the students at Government Law College, Mumbai formed Students for the Promotion of International Law, Mumbai (SPIL, Mumbai) in the year 2009.

We at SPIL, Mumbai, strive towards taking legal studies to an empirical level and promoting law as an area of enquiry and study far beyond the realms of classrooms. We as a student-based organisation, seek to encourage communication and cooperation among students and lawyers internationally. SPIL Mumbai relentlessly strives to provide greater opportunities for comprehensive studies of international cultures and legal systems, to facilitate global interactions and to publicise educational and career opportunities in international law.

The GLC-SPIL International Law Journal (ILJ) is an esteemed annual publication from SPIL Mumbai, dedicated to fostering critical thought and dialogue in the field of international law. It is a double-blind, peer-reviewed open-access journal crafted to present cutting-edge research, insightful articles, and detailed analyses by prominent scholars, legal professionals, and students alike. Every edition showcases an array of compelling legal issues spanning public international law, transnational commercial law, human rights, environmental law, and more, aiming to illuminate diverse perspectives on global legal challenges.

With a highly-affiliated editorial board, we are committed to upholding the highest standards of academic integrity and scholarship, ensuring that each article contributes meaningfully to current debates and developments. Theme

Submissions are invited on any topic of contemporary relevance in the area of International Environmental Law.

Categories and Word Limit

Submissions may be in the form of the following categories -

• Articles: An Article must comprehensively analyse a specific issue. It must study or evaluate the status quo, indicate any lacunae therein, and suggest potential solutions. It may also employ a comparative, historical or multi- disciplinary approach to strengthen the author’s argument. An Article must strictly be within the 6000 to 10000-word limit, exclusive of footnotes and a bibliography.
• Essays: Essays are more concise in terms of scope and conceptualisation. An Essay must strictly be within the 4000 to 6000-word limit, exclusive of footnotes and bibliography.
• Case Notes and/or Legislative Commentaries: Notes and commentaries discuss or critique a recent judgement, landmark case or any recent legislation or bill before parliament or a state legislature. A Note/Commentary must strictly be within the 1500 to 3000-word limit, exclusive of footnotes and bibliography.

Merit

• Author (s) whose work is selected shall have their work published in the
• GLC – SPIL International Law Journal Volume V.
• Author (s) whose work is published shall receive a Certificate of Merit.
• Author (s) of top manuscripts recommended by the Editorial Board will be invited to present their paper during our flagship event – the 15th Government Law College International Law Summit.

Submission Guidelines

• Abstract Word Limit: 300 words;
• Authorship: Co-authorship allowed up to 2 authors;
• Method of Citation: Harvard Bluebook 20th Edition;
• Font: Times New Roman;
• Font Size: 12 for the Body of the Manuscript; 10 for the Footnotes;
• Line Spacing: 1.5 for the Body of the Manuscript; 1 for the Footnotes;
• Alignment: Justified;
• Plagiarism: A plagiarism percentage of 10 % is acceptable. Manuscripts having a plagiarism percentage above this threshold will be rejected unless decided otherwise by the Editorial Board.

Eligibility

The entries are open to all law undergraduate and postgraduate students, industry practitioners, academicians and research scholars.
