UILS Student Law Review (USLR), Panjab University is inviting submissions for its inaugural edition (Volume I, Issue I) to be published in 2024.
About UILS
University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS), Chandigarh was established as a Constituent Department of Panjab University, Chandigarh in the year 2004-05. To create highly qualified international legal professionals, the Department provides distinctive five-year integrated undergraduate programs including B.Com. L.Lb. (Hons.), and B.A. L.Lb. (Hons.) and two postgraduate courses - LLM (one year) and LLM (two years). As a center for expertise in legal studies, UILS is dedicated to the growth of educational and professional development of young minds with a goal to provide the students with the knowledge and abilities necessary to grasp, identify, and develop solutions to complex legal and other interdisciplinary situations.
About USLR
The UILS Student Law Review (USLR) is a referred and peer-reviewed bi-annual journal published by the Student Editorial Board of the University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh. The Journal seeks to publish quality submissions on issues of contemporary legal relevance. Being the inaugural edition of the journal, we are looking forward to receiving submissions exploring nuanced aspects of law that contribute to the legal discourse. The Editorial Board shall also give feedback and suggestions to the authors so as to better their understanding in diverse fields of law, thereby promoting a vibrant culture of legal writing.
Submission Guidelines
The USLR is inviting submissions from academicians, practitioners, legal professionals, research scholars and students for its inaugural edition on any contemporary legal issue in the following categories:
- Articles: An article must be descriptive in nature, providing a comprehensive analysis of the issue. It should be between 3,000 to 5,000 words.
- Case Comments: A case comment must contain a succinct analysis of a recent judicial pronouncement or a landmark case. It should be between 1,500 to 3,000 words.
- Legislative Comments: A legislative comment must seek to undertake a detailed scrutiny of a proposed Bill, Act or legislation. It should be between 1,500 to 3,000 words.
- Book Reviews: A book review may be given on any book related to law. The word limit for the same is within 1500-3000 words.
The aforementioned word limits are exclusive of footnotes. The word limit can be relaxed depending upon the quality of the submission. The Editorial Board has the sole discretion in this matter and its decision shall be final.
- Every submission must contain an abstract of not more than 300 words. Failure to comply with this rule would lead to summary rejection of the submission.
- Co-authorship of not more than two authors is permitted.
- All submissions made to the USLR must be original. Submissions exceeding the 10% plagiarism limit shall be summarily rejected.
- The Review follows an exclusive-submission policy, wherein the submission must not be published or under review by another journal, law review or blog. As a condition of publication, the authors grant the Journal an irrevocable, transferable, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to reproduce, publish and distribute their submission(s) in all media including but not limited to print and any electronic services. The license is granted for the duration of the subsistence of the copyright including any extensions and /or renewals.
- The manuscript must not contain any information relating to the identity of the author(s). A cover letter containing the details of the author(s), namely their institutional affiliation, designation and contact information must be attached in a separate document along with the submission.
- Although articles shall be subject to a rigorous review process, the accuracy of quotations, titles, names, dates, charts, tables, footnotes, conclusions recommendations etc. is solely the responsibility of the author(s).
- No fee shall be charged at any stage of the publication process.
Formatting Guidelines
- The USLR follows the ‘Indian Law Institute (ILI)’ citation standard. The usage of speaking footnotes and endnotes is highly discouraged.
- The body of the manuscript must be in font: Times New Roman, size: 12 and spacing: 1.5 spacing
- The footnotes must be in font: Times New Roman, size: 10 and spacing: single spacing
Review Process
The manuscripts will undergo a rigorous review process which usually takes 8-12 weeks. (tentatively). The authors shall be updated at every stage of the process. The Editorial Board reserves the right to recommend changes to the authors, if any. The decision with regard to the selection of manuscripts by the Editorial Board would be final.
