Mumbai, Maharashtra, July 31, 2024 – Dharmashastra National Law University (DNLU) Jabalpur and Maharashtra National Law University (MNLU) Mumbai have joined forces through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed during MNLU’s 10th Orientation Day.

Strategic Collaboration for Academic Excellence

Dharmashastra National Law University (DNLU) Jabalpur, renowned for its commitment to academic excellence and holistic development, has recently bolstered its academic standing through a strategic collaboration. In a significant move, DNLU has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Maharashtra National Law University (MNLU) Mumbai. This partnership aims to enhance research-oriented courses, including Masters and Ph.D. programs.

DNLU's Commitment to Legal Education

Established in 2018 under the Madhya Pradesh Dharmashastra National Law University Act, 2018, DNLU is dedicated to advancing legal education and upholding the rule of law in accordance with the Indian Constitution. The university is guided by prominent legal luminaries: Hon’ble Judge of the Supreme Court of India Shri Justice J.K. Maheshwari as its Visitor, Hon’ble Acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh, Shri Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva as its Chancellor, and Prof. (Dr.) Manoj Kumar Sinha as its Vice-Chancellor. DNLU offers a range of programs including B.A. LL.B. (Hons.), LL.M., and Ph.D.

MNLU's Legacy of Legal Excellence

MNLU Mumbai, established under the Maharashtra National Law University Act, 2014, is celebrated for its contributions to legal education and societal-oriented research. The university's mission is to impart advanced legal knowledge and advocacy skills for societal transformation and development. The Chancellor, Hon'ble Dr. Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, Chief Justice, Supreme Court of India, and Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Dilip Ukey, who brings a wealth of academic and international experience, leads the institution.

Prof. Ukey has an illustrious career, having served as the pro-Vice-Chancellor and briefly as the acting Vice-Chancellor of SRTM University, Nanded, Maharashtra, and as Professor & Head of the Department at the Department of Law, Savitribai Phule Pune University. He was also a Visiting Research Fellow at New South Wales University, Sydney, Australia, and was awarded a UGC Fellowship to visit France. Prof. Ukey has been a member of various committees of Universities, UGC, and Public Service Commissions, including the Judges Selection Panel.

Aims of the MoU

The MoU signed between DNLU and MNLU aims to synergize their professional capabilities towards capacity building, education, research, and publications in the legal field. Prof. Ukey's expertise is expected to contribute significantly to DNLU's growth trajectory. The MoU also facilitates exchange programs for students and faculty, collaborative research initiatives, and joint academic events such as seminars, conferences, and moot court competitions.
