Jabalpur, 23rd August 2024 – Dharmashastra National Law University (DNLU), Jabalpur, in collaboration with Social Action Forum for Manav Adhikar (SAFMA) and People Against Rapes in India (PARI), organized a workshop focused on the prevention of violence against women, with a special emphasis on redressal and rehabilitation. This initiative, held under the Academic Outreach Committee, underscores DNLU's commitment to promoting gender equality and academic excellence.

Inauguration and Tree Plantation Drive

The workshop began with a symbolic tree plantation drive within the university premises, demonstrating the participants' support for the cause. The event was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Shri Justice H.P. Singh, Former Judge of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh. In his address, Justice Singh highlighted the challenges women victims face in accessing legal recourse and stressed the need for simplifying legal procedures to better support victims.

The workshop featured insightful presentations from prominent figures in the field:

I. Sexual Violence & Rehabilitation of Victims

  • Ms. Yogita Bhayana, Founder of PARI, spoke on the role of institutions like PARI in supporting victims of sexual violence. She emphasized the importance of raising awareness about the Prevention of Sexual Harassment at the Workplace (POSH) Act.

II. Legal Aspects of Violence Against Women
:

  • Dr. Charu Wali Khanna, President of SAFMA, discussed the need for more victim-friendly legal procedures that can expedite justice for women. She highlighted the importance of fast-tracking cases involving violence against women.

III. Legal Procedures and FIR Filing

  • Ms. Namita Dwivedi, Assistant Director of MPSJA, provided a detailed overview of the legal procedures related to filing FIRs. She also led an interactive session to gauge the audience's understanding of laws related to violence against women.

Interactive Q&A Session

The workshop concluded with a dynamic Q&A session, where participants engaged with the speakers on various issues concerning violence against women. The discussion provided valuable insights into the challenges and potential solutions for improving the legal framework and support systems for victims.
