ICCHR Unveils India’s First Non-Governmental Research Organisation Dedicated to Intellectual Property Rights

A New Era for Intellectual Property in India

Operating under the Naovina Development of Intellectual Property and Research Foundation, CDIPR aims to foster an environment where innovation and creativity can flourish. The center will focus on various aspects of intellectual property, including geographical indications (GIs), trademarks, patents, copyrights, designs, and other related IPs. With its motto "Fostering Innovation, Protecting Creativity," CDIPR seeks to become a pivotal institution in advancing and safeguarding intellectual property in India.

Leadership and Vision

Expressing his enthusiasm, Mr. Dipendu Das, Convener of ICCHR and Director of CDIPR, stated, “The establishment of CDIPR marks a historic moment for India. As the first non-governmental research organization dedicated to IPRs, we are committed to fostering innovation and protecting creativity. Our vision is to build a robust intellectual property ecosystem that not only supports economic growth but also encourages technological advancement and cultural enrichment.”

Objectives and Initiatives

The primary objective of CDIPR is to raise awareness and appreciation of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) among creators, innovators, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and the general public. The center is set to actively engage in and support the registration and promotion of GIs, trademarks, patents, copyrights, industrial designs, and other related IPs. Key initiatives include:

• Capacity Building: Offering education, training, and skill-building initiatives to effectively leverage IP for innovation, competitiveness, and sustainable development.
• Policy Advocacy: Promoting a conducive legal and regulatory environment for the protection and enforcement of IPRs in India.
• Public Awareness Campaigns: Conducting educational initiatives, policy research and analysis, and public awareness campaigns.
• Collaborations and International Cooperation: Engaging in collaborations and international cooperation for a comprehensive approach to intellectual property.

Future Plans

To oversee the operations and activities of CDIPR, a special committee comprising senior officials of ICCHR has been established. This committee will play a crucial role in shaping the direction and impact of the new center. In the coming weeks, CDIPR will also notify its permanent members, further solidifying its presence in the realm of academic research and legal education.
