In recognition of the pivotal role youth play in nation-building and economic growth, World Youth Skills Day was celebrated on July 15, 2024, at the India International Centre. The event, organized by the World Academy of Higher Education and Development (W-AHEAD) and the National Institute of Skilling, saw Prof Anil Sahasrabudhe, Chairman of NAAC and NBA, as the Chief Guest. Distinguished Guests of Honour included Prof TG Sitharam, Chairman AICTE, Dr. Pankaj Mittal, Secretary General of AIU, and Er Pradeep Chaturvedi, Chairman (Delhi section) of the Indian National Academy of Engineering.
A Call to Action for Empowering Youth
Prof PB Sharma, President of W-AHEAD, welcomed the esteemed gathering and emphasized the importance of the day. Keynote Address and Round Table Discussions
In his keynote address, Prof Anil Sahasrabudhe highlighted the Indian government's initiatives aimed at bridging the skill gap and empowering youth to meet the challenges of emerging technologies. He emphasized the importance of revamping accreditation processes to focus on sustainability and technological innovations.
Prof. TG Sitharam discussed the evolving landscape of professional education in India, emphasizing the need for interdisciplinary and holistic development of students. He highlighted the importance of creating innovative and enterprising minds among graduates.
The Future of Work and Skill Development
The panelists at the Round Table on "Skilling Youth for Viksit Bharat@2047" underscored the need to reimagine education and skill development to create zero unemployment and meet the demands of new and emerging technologies. They stressed the importance of equipping youth with both technical and life skills to ensure sustainable development and world peace.
UNESCO’s Theme for 2024: Youth Skills for Peace and Development
This year’s theme, chosen by UNESCO, highlights the role of youth in peace-building and conflict resolution.
