DNLU Hosts 1st Convocation Ceremony, Celebrating Academic Excellence and Achievements of Graduates

July 20, 2024: The first Convocation Ceremony of the Dharmashastra National Law University, Jabalpur was held on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at PDPM IIITDM Campus, Jabalpur. The event marked a significant milestone in the history of the university, celebrating the academic achievements of its graduates.

Presidential Address by Hon'ble Shri. Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva

The convocation was presided over by the
Acting Chief Justice of M.P. High Court
and Chancellor of the University, Hon’ble Shri. Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva. Justice Sachdeva conferred degrees to the graduates and delivered the Presidential Address. His lordship emphasised the relevance of technology in the legal profession and highlighted the importance of time management in this respected field.

Convocation Address by Chief Guest, Hon'ble Shri Justice Jitendra Kumar Maheshwari

The Chief Guest of the event was Hon’ble Shri Justice Jitendra Kumar Maheshwari, Judge, Supreme Court of India, and The Visitor of the University. Justice Maheshwari delivered the Convocation Address, appraising the role of parents and teachers in shaping the future of the students. He emphasised the concept of 5 E’s - embracing the roots, ethical, enthusiastic, enlightened, and empathetic - for adhering to the principles to attain success in the journey of life.

Keynote Address by Guest of Honour, Hon'ble Shri Justice Satish Chandra Sharma

Hon’ble Shri Justice Satish Chandra Sharma, Judge, Supreme Court of India, served as the Guest of Honour and delivered the keynote address. Justice Sharma urged the government for the speedy construction of the university and expressed his confidence in the government for this task. He also announced his interest in sponsoring a gold medal in the name of his father, Late Dr. B.N. Sharma.

Special Address by Hon'ble Shri Justice Rajendra Menon

Hon’ble Shri Justice Rajendra Menon, Chairperson, Armed Forces Tribunal, addressed the gathering as the Special Guest. Justice Menon emphasised the University’s timeless mantra, “Satyam Ved, Dharmam Char,” and urged the students to internalize and embody these principles in every aspect of their lives.

Welcome Address and University Report by Vice Chancellor, Prof (Dr) Manoj Kumar Sinha

Earlier in the event, Prof (Dr) Manoj Kumar Sinha, the Vice Chancellor of DNLU, welcomed the dignitaries, guests, and students while presenting the university report. Prof. Sinha highlighted the achievements of the university and its growth over the years.

Gold Medals and Degrees Awarded

A total of 26 gold medals were awarded across undergraduate, postgraduate, and sponsored categories, recognizing exceptional performance in disciplines such as criminal law, constitutional law, business law, and international law. Sponsored medals included the Justice Dr. R.C. Lahoti, Former CJI Gold Medal for batch topper, and the Meena Ram Gold Medal for International Law Topper of batch 2019-2024.
Ms. Kaveesha, who graduated from B.A.LL.B. (Hons.) 2018-2024 batch, received a total of 02 gold medals, followed by Ms. Yashika Goplani from the B.A.LL.B. (Hons.) 2019-2025 batch, who also received 02 gold medals. From the LL.M. program, Ms. Archita Tiwari (batch 2018-2020), Mr. Variath Adithya Anil (batch 2019-2021), Mr. Rahul Pareek (batch 2021), Ms. Surabhi Sharma (batch 2023), and Ms. Aditi Bandyopadhyay (batch 2024) received two (02) gold medals each. Additionally, 04 doctoral degrees were conferred during the convocation, marking the graduation of a total of 393 students across B.A. LL.B. (Hons.), LL.M., and Ph.D. programs.
