Jabalpur, 06th October 2024 — The Centre for Law and Economics (CLE) at Dharmashastra National Law University (DNLU), in collaboration with the Centre for Trade and Investment Law (CTIL), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, successfully concluded a two-day Interdisciplinary International Conference on Law, Economics, and Artificial Intelligence. The conference, held on October 5th and 6th, 2024, at IIITDM Jabalpur and DNLU Jabalpur, brought together over 250 participants, including scholars, policymakers, legal practitioners, and industry leaders, to discuss the convergence of these fields and its impact on sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, finance, and the judiciary.

Discussions on AI’s Impact in Key Sectors

The conference served as a vital platform for in-depth discussions on the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into crucial sectors like precision farming, personalized medicine, financial regulation, and the judiciary. Speakers highlighted the growing need for robust legal and economic frameworks to address both the opportunities and challenges AI presents. The discussions underscored AI's potential to revolutionize sectors by improving efficiency, enhancing decision-making, and reducing human error.

Esteemed Dignitaries and Experts Share Insights

The Valedictory Ceremony was graced by the presence of Hon’ble Shri Justice Vivek Agarwal, Judge, High Court of Madhya Pradesh, as the Chief Guest. In his closing remarks, Justice Agarwal spoke about the role of AI and technological advancements in eradicating poverty and improving the accuracy of various operations. He commended the conference's organizers for their efforts in curating such a meaningful event.

Prof. Dr. Manoj Kumar Sinha, Vice-Chancellor of DNLU, expressed his appreciation for the collaborative efforts that made the event possible, especially highlighting the student contributions. The Guest of Honour, Prof. Rajesh Kumar Verma, Vice-Chancellor of RDVV, lauded the conference’s focus on the intersection of law, economics, and AI, emphasizing the need for interdisciplinary collaboration for future progress.

Best Paper Presentation Awards and Publication Release

During the Valedictory Ceremony, the edited publication of the Centre for Law and Economics, titled ‘Evolving Dimensions of Law and Economics’, was released by the dignitaries. The publication, edited by Prof. Dr. Manoj Kumar Sinha, Dr. Isha Wadhwa, and Mr. Kushal Paliwal, was a significant highlight of the event.

The Best Paper Presentation Awards were also announced, with Ms. Garima Panwar, Assistant Professor at HNLU Raipur, Ms. Sharmila Devi, Academician from SLS, and Mr. Anshu Malik, a student at MNLU, receiving the top honours.

Keynote Speakers and Panel Discussions

The conference featured a remarkable lineup of speakers, including Dr. Vivek Chandra, General Manager and Head IT at MPPKVVCL Jabalpur, and Dr. Gargi Chakrabarti, WIPO Tutor and Associate Professor of Law at DNLU, among other distinguished experts. Discussions ranged from AI’s role in healthcare and financial regulation to its implications for trade law.

Prominent academics chaired various sessions, including Dr. Chitra Sarupriya from NLU Jodhpur and Ms. Ruchira Chaturvedi, Assistant Professor of Law at DNLU Jabalpur. The sessions explored the economic and legal implications of AI, urging stakeholders to focus on building frameworks that ensure ethical AI integration.

Conclusion and Future Outlook

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Isha Wadhwa, Director of CLE, and Mr. Utkarsh K. Mishra, Co-Director of the Conference. Both expressed their gratitude to the distinguished guests, experts, and the dedicated team of CLE students who ensured the conference’s success.
