Jabalpur, 05th October 2024 — Dharmashastra National Law University (DNLU) inaugurated its 2-day Interdisciplinary International Conference on Law, Economics & Artificial Intelligence, bringing together experts to explore the critical intersections of law, economics, and AI. Distinguished speakers discussed the growing influence of AI on global legal and economic systems, emphasizing the need for ethical and inclusive regulations.

Exploring the Intersection of Law, Economics, and AI

The Centre for Law and Economics (CLE) at Dharmashastra National Law University (DNLU), Jabalpur, inaugurated its 2-day Interdisciplinary International Conference on Law, Economics & Artificial Intelligence on October 5, 2024. This prestigious event, co-hosted by the Centre for Trade and Investment Law (CTIL) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, took place at the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing (IIITDM), Jabalpur. The conference brings together luminaries from the judiciary, academia, and industry to discuss the rapidly evolving nexus of law, economics, and artificial intelligence (AI).

The event commenced in the presence of several distinguished guests, including:

In his welcome address, Prof. Dr. Manoj K. Sinha, Vice Chancellor of DNLU, emphasized the critical intersection of law, economics, and AI in shaping future legal frameworks. Prof. Dr. Bhartendu K. Singh, Director of IIITDM, underscored the importance of mastering AI technologies while ensuring ethical use.

Insights from Judicial Dignitaries

During the inaugural address, Justice Jitendra Kumar Maheshwari highlighted the importance of collaboration between academia, industry, and the government to create AI regulations that ensure fairness and inclusivity. He also discussed India’s growing role in the global trade landscape and the transformative potential of AI in enhancing international trade law.

Justice Suresh Kumar Kait expressed his gratitude to the organizers and discussed the critical role AI can play in administering justice by increasing efficiency. However, he raised concerns over transparency and accountability, noting the risks of algorithmic bias in AI.

Justice Vivek Agarwal further explored AI’s impact on the legal profession, including its applications in legal research, document review, and drafting.

Two notable books were unveiled during the event:

  • "Law, Economics, and Artificial Intelligence" - Edited by Prof. (Dr.) Manoj K. Sinha, Dr. Isha Wadhwa, and Mr. Utkarsh Kumar Mishra.
